For a number of years after relocating to mid-Missouri, the work of the Community Rehabilitation Center, later to become Advent Enterprises, and even later to become Job Point, allured me. Shortly after graduating from Mizzou, I applied for a position I was grossly underqualified for. The company’s reputation was second to none, and I wanted to be a part of this noble community service. Years passed, and I found myself working part-time at the local independent living center after gaining maturity and experience by working with people with disabilities. Still, I was ready for a change.
As luck would have it, there was an employment opportunity at Advent Enterprises. At this point in my career, I was qualified for the opening. Good fortune landed me a position that has resulted in three decades of giving to something greater than myself. I have never looked back and have told countless others, “If you want to leave work every day with much more than a paycheck, Job Point is the right place.” The people I have met — colleagues, persons seeking services, community members — and the lives I’ve seen transformed have provided me tremendous growth, satisfaction and purpose. It’s been an incredible ride!
